Financial reasons drove a wedge through Monterrey and head coach Ricardo Lavolpe and as a result the Argentine is out days before the start of the Clausura 2009 season.
Monterrey had Isaac Mizrahi all set to start the Clausura 2008 season but fired him on the eve of the season to bring in the former Mexican national team coach. Lavolpe had success initially as Monterrey reached the semifinals of the Clausura 08 season but won just five games last year.
Still, the two sides wanted to continue co-existing until the money situation couldn't be resolved. Lavolpe's contract technically expired on Dec. 15 and as no accord was reached the club announced they were going to go in a different direction and effectively removed Lavolpe from the position.
