Close but not close enough

Okay, I'm on the bus home. I've had time to digest the match a bit and in the end its quite a disappointing result.

The game was there for the taking, but that only applied to Salt Lake. Chivas could never deal properly with them. RSL's energy was too much for Chivas to handle and it eventually caught up with them.

Offensively Chivas was hardly ever a threat. Sacha Kljestan did not look good in stretches while none of the other three midfielders offered much offensively.

It was always awkward to have Jonathan Bornstein in central defense and bringing in Bobby Burling for Carey Talley was a strange move. Burling moved into central defense while Bornstein moved to the right. This was at a critical moment when it looked as if the Chivas backline would hold after all. Instead it was a breakdown in the defense that led to the goal. Perhaps finishing the game with the same backline may not have resulted in allowing a soft goal like that.

Although missing some players hurt - Atiba Harris would have helped quite a bit - the team still should have held. But one mental lapse now has Chivas on the brink of elimination.
