Columbus goes through

For the first time in their history, the Columbus Crew will play for an MLS Cup title. The Crew came from behind to beat the Chicago Fire 2-1 in the Eastern Conference final on Thursday night. The Crew stormed back from a 1-0 halftime deficit and used goals from Chad Marshall and Eddie Gaven to put the Fire away.

Columbus has been the best team from the start of the season and their surprising and impressive run is nearly complete.

The Crew showed why they were the best team in the league this season in beating the Fire. Guillermo Barros Schelotto had a hand in both goals. First, he placed a perfect cross off a set piece into the box where Marshall muscled past Brian McBride to knock in the game's first goal. Then, Barros Schelotto held off Bakary Soumare to win a ball and eventually Gaven saw the ball fall to his feet and the midfielder buried his shot from close range.

The other finalist will be determined on Saturday but Columbus will surely enter the match as the clear favorites to walk away with the MLS Cup '08 crown.
